Haazinu

📜 The Story

Parshat Haazinu is a beautiful song that Moshe Rabbeinu taught to the whole Jewish people just before he passed away. He calls out to the heavens and the earth to listen and to be witnesses forever, because unlike people, the sky and the ground never change and will always remember his words.

In the song, Moshe reminds the people that Hashem is called 'HaTzur', the Rock, and that all His ways are perfect, fair, and true. Hashem chose the Jewish people to be His special nation and watched over them with great love throughout their long journey in the desert.

Moshe uses a beautiful picture to describe this love. He says Hashem cared for the Jewish people like a mother eagle that gently stirs up her nest and then carries her young safely on her wings, teaching them to fly without letting them fall.

The song also warns that if the people ever forget Hashem and turn to serve other things, there will be hard consequences, but Moshe promises that Hashem will never fully abandon His people. In the end Hashem always has mercy and brings comfort and redemption to the Jewish nation.

At the close of the parsha, Hashem tells Moshe to climb to the top of Har Nevo. From there Moshe would be able to see the whole Land of Israel spread out before him, the land he had waited his entire life to enter, just before he would pass away on that mountain, exactly as his brother Aharon had passed away on Hor HaHar.
